Ingredients:
- 1.5 lbs ground beef (80/20 blend)
- 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp oil
- 2 tbsp butter
- 8 oz sliced cremini or button mushrooms
- 1 medium yellow onion, thinly sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tsp soy sauce
- 1/2 tsp dried thyme
Instructions:
- In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Gently mix until combined and form into 4 uniform patties, roughly 1-inch thick, pressing a small dimple into the center of each.
- Heat a skillet over medium-high heat with a drizzle of oil. Sear the patties for 4–5 minutes per side without moving them until a dark crust forms. Remove the patties and set aside on a plate.
- In the same skillet, melt the butter into the residual beef drippings. Sauté the sliced onions and mushrooms for 6–8 minutes until browned. Stir in the minced garlic and thyme for the final 60 seconds.
- Sprinkle the flour over the vegetable mixture and stir constantly for 2 minutes. Slowly whisk in the beef broth and soy sauce, simmering until the sauce thickens into a glossy gravy.
- Return the seared hamburger patties to the skillet. Spoon the gravy over the meat and simmer for another 3–5 minutes until the steaks are cooked through.
