Ingredients:
- 2 lbs lean ground beef
- 2 tbsp chili powder
- 1 tbsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1 cup chunky salsa
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
Instructions:
- Place the raw ground beef in the bottom of the slow cooker.
- Whisk together the chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, pepper, and cayenne in a small bowl.
- Sprinkle the spice blend evenly over the beef.
- Dollop the tomato paste and chunky salsa on top.
- Gently stir the mixture to coat the beef in the spices and sauce. Note: Don't worry if it's not fully broken up.
- Cover with the lid and set to HIGH for 4 hours or LOW for 7-8 hours.
- Avoid lifting the lid during the first 3 hours until the meat is tender and fragrant.
- Open the lid 30 minutes before serving and use a wooden spoon or masher to break up large chunks.
- Stir vigorously to incorporate the juices.
- Leave the lid off for the final 20 minutes until the sauce thickens and clings to the meat if it looks too liquid.
